  • 1 cup milk Whole milk for creaminess; plant-based milk as a dairy-free option.
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped Sweet onions like Vidalia enhance sweetness.
  • 1 tbsp butter For sautéing onions.
  • to taste salt Seasoning is key.
  • to taste pepper Seasoning is key.
  • optional green onions for garnish Adds crunch and color.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Sauté onions until translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add sliced kielbasa; cook until lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  • In a large baking dish, layer diced potatoes.
  • Top with the kielbasa mixture, then sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  • Pour milk over everything; season with salt and pepper.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let cool slightly; garnish with green onions and serve.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C). Can be frozen in a freezer-safe dish; thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
