Preparation

  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add onion, garlic, carrot, and celery; sauté for 5 minutes until softened.
  • Add ground beef; cook until browned.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and red wine (if using), oregano, and bay leaf.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Bring to a simmer; reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the bay leaf before serving.

Notes

Feel free to store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. This sauce can also be frozen for up to 2-3 months. Don't forget to label your containers!
