  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 cups unsalted butter (melted)
  • 0.25 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1.5 cups finely diced apples (Honeycrisp or Gala) Aim for sweet and crunchy varieties.

Glaze Ingredients

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.33 cups apple cider or juice Plus 2 tablespoons for drizzling.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F and grease a nonstick baking sheet.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  • In a large bowl, mix the melted butter and granulated sugar until combined. Add in the egg, vanilla extract, and applesauce, whisking until smooth.
  • Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Carefully fold in the diced apples.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.

Baking

  • Bake for about 10 minutes until golden brown. For caramelization, switch on the broiler for an additional 2-4 minutes, watching closely.

Glazing

  • Whisk the powdered sugar with the apple cider until smooth and brush generously over the warm fritters.

Notes

Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar. Pairs well with warm maple syrup, vanilla ice cream, or a spiced yogurt dip.
